This past weekend we traveled to Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge outside of Hilo. While we were there we planted 600 new plants. It was awesome. We used drills to make the holes and we all worked together to make it go fast. We stayed in a small cabin with minimal hot water but it was fun. While in the forest our first day we went berry picking and found Ohelo Berries. Later that night my professor made a Ohelo Berry Pie. It was quite fantastic and a bit tart but so good.
Today after we left Hakalau we traveled up to the summit of Mauna Kea. It was beautiful. When we got up there we were above the clouds and could see over them. We were at 13,000 some feet so there was not much oxygen. After awhile we all started getting head aches and feeling a bit sick so we weren't up there long. But long enough to enjoy God's creations.
We are now back in Hilo for the night spending the night in Hilo Missionary Church. Tomorrow we finally get to sleep in and then we are heading to the Kona side where they have amazing beaches. So i'm pretty excited for that.
