We spent one night in Hong Kong before we went to Beijing. I would love to go back to Hong Kong. The city was amazing at night. I loved the nightlife. Our group went to watch a light show overlooking the city. It was so beautiful. Even though we were out in the Culture it didn’t feel too different. It just felt like I was in New York City.
Before we went to see the light show we went to McDonalds. We learned a few things there. Even though something may be the same as in the States (like the straw holders) it still seems different when we are in a different culture and sometimes we can’t figure it out. We learned that a swirl cone does not mean it is chocolate and vanilla. It means that it is a cone with ice cream that is swirled. We learned that with the language barrier between us we do not always get exactly what we ask for. Sometimes good, and you get two big macs instead of one even when you only paid for one, and sometimes bad things happen. We learned that you can get a lot more at McDonalds for very cheap than in the States.
We took a 24-hour train ride the next morning from Hong Kong to Beijing. We were all in different cars. Some people were in small tiny rooms the size of my closet with six people. I was in a room the size of my closet with 4 people. Then some wimpy people from the group were in rooms twice as big as my closet for two people. They are the people who couldn’t handle small rooms and being around lots of people, but I still love them.
